How Day 2 Testing works

If you are travelling abroad to a Green listed country it is a legal requirement for you to book and take a Covid-19 PCR test on Day 2 of your arrival into the UK.

Children aged 4 and under do not need to take this test.

You do not need to quarantine unless the test result is positive.

You must quarantine if NHS Test & Trace informs you that you travelled to England with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Getting your Sample back to the Lab

Recently we have experienced a high number of issues with samples not arriving at the laboratory in a timely manner. Screen4 have now opened all of our clinic locations as drop off points for your home test samples. A list of Drop box opening times and locations can be found here.

You will receive a Royal Mail Tracked 24 envelope within your test kit to return the sample to our lab. This can be posted using a Royal Mail Priority Post Box only.

Put the sealed Pathoseal Bag containing the Plastic Sample Tube into the Sample Box. Do not put anything else into the box

Replace the cover sleeve

Place the Sample Box into the Royal Mail Return Plastic envelope and seal.

Identify the Royal Mail Tracking Number on the returns envelope and make sure you have recorded this on the front page of this booklet.

Take your home test to the nearest PRIORITY Post Box which can be found on the link below:
www.royalmail.com/services-near-you

You can track your parcels journey using the Royal Mail Tracking number you have recorded.

You will receive an email notification when your sample reaches the laboratory. Results will be sent to you 24-48 hours from receipt at the laboratory.

When your results are ready you will need to log back into your secure account where you can download your results document to print or save to your device.

During the Bank Holiday weekend Royal Mail and other courier organisations will not be delivering samples to the laboratory as usual – please expect delays.

Due to recent Royal Mail backlogs and delays at the Royal Mail Cambridge hub we are routing all samples via our head office in Barnsley, your sample will be checked in and show as received on your tracking information. We then private courier your samples to the laboratory within 6-8 hours of receipt at our Head Office. This ensures that your sample reaches the laboratory the same day as being delivered to us.

You will receive an additional email to update you that your sample has been checked in at the laboratory. Results are then issued within 24-48 hours from this.

How your results will be sent to you

After completing your online account creation and entering your sample barcode number you will post your sample to the laboratory using a Royal Mail Priority Post box only.

When your sample arrives at our laboratory you will receive an email notification. You will also be able to track your sample using the Royal Mail tracking number on the front of your returns envelope.

Results are reported within 24 hours from receipt of your sample at the laboratory (please note this may be up to 48 hours due to high volumes). Results are sent to your online results account and when they are ready you will receive an email to prompt you to check your account. Your results PDF document can be saved to your device or printed. Please note that the time taken on your sample certificate will be shown as UTC.
