What is it?
A PCR test, sometimes called an antigen test, looks for signs of active virus in your body. The test will tell you: if you are positive or negative for Coronavirus (Covid-19) The PCR test can be performed at home by yourself or we can arrange for a clinician to carry this out for you (location dependent).
The test requires taking a swab from the throat and nose, this sample will then be sent to laboratory for analysis using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
How long before I need to do my test do I need to order my kit?
We recommend ordering test kits in advance, but always 48 hour before you need to carry out the sample.
How accurate is this test?
The test used in our Laboratory are PHE (Public Health England) evaluated and show a minimum sensitivity greater than 99% and a specificity of greater than 99% when the virus is on the swab with no cross-reactivity with other viruses. This is when the test is performed correctly.
Can I do this test myself at home?
Yes these tests are designed to be ‘self tests’ and clear and concise instructions come in each test kit.
How do I get my sample back to the Laboratory?
Getting your sample to the laboratory is the consumers responsibility. Screen4 take no liability in the delivery of kits to lab.
We will provide you with a FREE 24 hour tracked Royal Mail returns envelope inside of your kit. You need to post this in a PRIORITY postbox only. Click the link below to see the list of priority postboxes: https://www.royalmail.com/priority-postboxes
Please note this may be delayed during weekends and bank holidays.
You must log the tracking number that is on your FREE post envelope provided in your kit. We can not track your parcel to the lab for you.
You can alternatively use a tracked courier service if you would prefer to do this. You need to ensure that the courier service you are using accept Covid-19 samples.
If you require a fast track result – within 48 hours of travel then we recommend using a tracked same day courier.
All of the above is the consumers responsibility.
Please be aware if placing an order on a Bank Holiday there will be a delay on deliveries.
The current turnaround for results is 24-48 hours from receipt of the sample at lab.
When do I need to take my sample?
Please ensure you work out when you need to take your test prior to ordering. We are not authorised to advise you of when you should take this. Within the given time frame required by the country that you are travelling to. We always recommend carrying out the sample on the first day within the travel requirement period. How will I receive my results?
Results are reported 24-48 hours from receipt at lab and these will be sent to you via email. Please ensure when you order you input the correct email address.
Is there a fast track service?
Yes, we can offer a fast track service for additional costs. A fast track result is only used for people travelling on a weekend or you have a 48 hour requirement and you may need to deliver your sample to the lab directly.

Screen4 Ltd will only offer a refund against PCR testing service on the following parameters:
Any despatched and received kits for self-test (or company managed programs) that are unused will NOT be refunded under any circumstances due to health and safety reasons.
Clinician collected Pre-flight tests that have been paid for and scheduled:
- May be moved to another date if the flight is changed by the customer or the airline, this will be free of charge if an available slot is possible for the rescheduled appointment.
- It may be necessary for the customer to attend an alternative collection centre if their first choice is not available. If this is not acceptable then a refund will be given less an admin fee of £20 per test.
